Background
Travis Leatherwood is Centerfield’s mayor and previously served on its City Council. Reporting on his 2021 election identified him as a seminary teacher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As mayor, he pressed project engineers to include Centerfield in planning for a proposed U.S. 89 bicycle trail after the initial study boundary ended in Gunnison. In April 2025, engineers presented a revised route extending into Centerfield. The project remained a feasibility study at that point, with construction funding and long-term maintenance responsibilities still unresolved.
