Accounting and hospital finance

Steve Eliason earned an accounting degree and an MBA at the University of Utah. His official House biography identifies him as a licensed CPA and describes senior finance work at University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. It also records earlier service as president of the Road Home's board of trustees, linking his professional financial background with nonprofit governance and services for people experiencing homelessness. ^[2]

Eliason began serving in the House in 2011 and represents District 43 in Salt Lake County. The current roster identifies him as House parliamentarian. In the 2026 General Session, Steve Eliason was chief sponsor of H.B. 59, Identification Verification Amendments. It requires restaurant staff to check proof of age for anyone who looks 35 or younger before serving alcohol, and requires beer retailers, state stores and package agencies to ask every customer for proof of age. The governor signed it on March 17, 2026. ^[4]

Education budgets and behavioral health

Eliason's current assignments include Public Education Appropriations and the Utah Behavioral Health Legislative Policy Committee. He also serves on interim committees for health and revenue and taxation. Those responsibilities connect school spending and behavioral-health policy with his accounting and hospital-finance experience, while keeping the current committee portfolio distinct from the specific 2014 bill that illustrates an earlier phase of his legislative career. ^[2]
