Ranching and conservation organizations

Scott H. Chew grew up in the Uintah Basin, attended Utah State University and became an owner and operator of Chew Ranch and the Chew Livestock Family Co-op. His House biography records leadership in the Uintah Basin Conservation District and applied resource management, along with farm-bureau and Farm Service Committee involvement. It also describes appointments involving agricultural lands and wildlife governance. [1]

A northeastern Utah district

Chew began House service in January 2015 and represents District 68. The fresh roster lists Daggett, Duchesne, Summit and Uintah counties within the district; that current list is broader than the counties named in older biography text. His standing assignments include Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment and Public Utilities and Energy, tying ranching and resource interests to statewide policy responsibilities. [1]

Wildlife crossings and livestock safety

Chew sponsored 2026 HB431, Wildlife Crossing Amendments. The introduced proposal would set aside Transportation Investment Fund money for wildlife connectivity and livestock-protection projects, with transportation officials consulting wildlife officials on recommendations to the Transportation Commission. It is a concrete example of legislation joining highway infrastructure with rural land uses and animal safety. The proposed funding structure linked project recommendations with the commission's prioritization process. This account describes the introduced version. [2]

In the 2026 General Session, Scott H. Chew was chief sponsor of H.B. 37, Used Oil Management Act Amendments. It raises the recycling fee on lubricating oil starting July 1, 2026, lets the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control set the fee beginning July 1, 2027, and confirms that grants can pay permitted transporters in curbside used-oil collection. The governor signed it on March 25, 2026. [3]

In the 2026 General Session, Scott H. Chew was chief sponsor of H.B. 63, Livestock Watering Amendments. It provides for sub-basin livestock watering claims. The governor signed it on March 25, 2026. [4]

Water planning and resource appropriations

His current assignments include Natural Resources appropriations, the Legislative Water Development Commission and interim committees covering natural resources and public utilities, energy and technology. Those roles add agency funding and statewide water planning to his legislative work. They also distinguish institutional responsibilities from the ranching, conservation-district and industry organizations that form the professional and civic background described in his biography.
