Background
Matthew Barraza was selected to lead Utah's Indigent Defense Commission in October 2021. His work supports public-defense resources and training across state and local systems. He previously spent 15 years at Salt Lake Legal Defenders, including supervising-attorney, drug-court and capital-defense work. He earned a botany degree at Weber State University and a law degree at the University of Utah.
