Background
Kendrick Thomas joined the Richfield City Council in April 2023 after four years on the city’s Planning Commission. His professional background is in civil and structural engineering with Jones & DeMille Engineering. An engineering proposal submitted to Grand County in 2018 described his experience designing municipal, commercial, industrial and residential structures, as well as evaluating and rehabilitating existing buildings. The proposal also recorded prior construction work and a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering. Richfield’s 2026 minutes independently identify the council member as a Jones & DeMille employee.

Richfield leases 1.4 acres of airport land to the state for $100 a month
The council voted 5-0 on Aug. 25 to lease about 1.4 acres at the south end of the airport to the state Division of Facilities Construction and Management for $100 a month over five years. The same meeting approved a 100 South redesign 4-1, with the park strip limited to a hotel's frontage.

Richfield adopts a higher property tax rate estimated to bring in $500,000 more a year
Richfield's council adopted a tax rate of .002277 for 2026-27, up from .001721, after a truth-in-taxation hearing. The city's notice said the change would raise property tax revenue about $500,000, or 32.33%, and add $100.92 a year to the city's tax on a $330,000 home.
