Jon Hawkins earned a communications degree and an MBA at Brigham Young University. His official biography describes an early public-relations career at Edelman Worldwide in Washington, D.C., followed by a return to Utah and work in the software sector involving Workfront and Adobe. It also records graduate public-administration study at Southern Utah University, combining communications, business and public-sector education in his professional background. [1]
Public service and district
Hawkins began House service in January 2019 and represents District 55 in Utah County. His official biography identifies Pleasant Grove as his home and describes family and community connections in northern Utah County. Documented legislative work
His 2026 sponsor record lists HB537, Olympic Ticket Sales Tax Exemption, and HB354, Rescue Tracking Equipment Offense Amendments, as signed by the governor. Other proposals involved multifactor authentication and school athletes and ended as filed in the House. The record also includes resolutions on digital-asset custody and responses to trafficking and domestic violence. These entries identify separate areas of work without assuming a common outcome for bills and resolutions. [2]
In the 2026 General Session, Jon Hawkins was chief sponsor of H.B. 360, School Athlete Amendments. It would have barred public schools from belonging to an activities association that makes students ineligible for a period after transferring through open enrollment, school choice or because of bullying. It never reached a floor vote: a House committee returned it to the Rules Committee, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [3]
In the 2026 General Session, Jon Hawkins was chief sponsor of H.B. 354, Rescue Tracking Equipment Offense Amendments. It creates a criminal offense, with a set penalty, for certain acts involving rescue tracking equipment. The governor signed it on March 24, 2026. [4]
Committee and budget responsibilities
Hawkins serves on House Economic Development and Workforce Services, House Judiciary and House Ethics, as well as General Government Appropriations. His additional assignments include business and labor interim work, economic-development interim work and the Revitalization Zone Committee. The portfolio combines commercial and legal issues with institutional ethics, agency funding and development questions, giving his professional business and communications background a broader set of legislative applications.
