Joe Johnston is mayor of Stockton, with earlier service on its Planning Commission and Town Council. In a 2017 candidate questionnaire published by the Tooele Transcript Bulletin, Johnston described more than 26 years of service in the Kentucky and Utah Air National Guard before retirement. He also reported working as a military contractor in Tooele County and volunteering on local committees. Official January 2018 minutes identify him as the newly appointed Planning Commission chair. County election records show that he won a Stockton Town Council seat in November 2019.
