Background

Jim Cheney was chosen in March 2025 to fill the Sanpete County Commission vacancy created by Scott Collard’s resignation. At the time, he was a Fairview city councilman. The Sanpete Messenger reported that Republican delegates selected him after eight rounds of voting. In remarks to the delegates, Cheney described two decades of experience operating a local business in mental-health and rehabilitation services, including work involving substance use. He also described growing up in Fairview and emphasized managing growth, maintaining public accountability and making county decisions transparently.
