Career and education

Jake Sawyer's House biography describes executive and management experience in mortgage lending, real estate and technology sales. It records earlier service for two terms as chair of the Weber County Republican Party and identifies housing affordability as a major interest. The current roster lists a sales-director role at Microworks, giving his professional background a combination of lending, property-market and technology-sector experience. [1]

Public service and district

Sawyer began House service in January 2025 and represents District 9 in Weber County. His official biography emphasizes constituent contact through meetings, email and social media. His party leadership and private-sector management experience preceded his legislative office. His official biography presents housing affordability as a central concern and describes experience in lending, real estate and management as part of the background he brings to district representation. [1]

Documented legislative work

The Legislature records Sawyer's 2026 HB493, Consumer Products Amendments, as signed by the governor. His sponsor table also includes proposals on real-estate transactions, public-employee compensation and electroconvulsive therapy, each ending as filed in the House. Other drafting projects were abandoned at the sponsor's request. These different entries document his areas of activity without turning an introduced or abandoned proposal into a claim about policy that Utah adopted. [2]

In the 2026 General Session, Jake Sawyer was chief sponsor of H.B. 100, Electroconvulsive Therapy Prohibition Amendments. It would have prohibited electroconvulsive therapy for minors. It never reached a floor vote: a House committee returned it to the Rules Committee, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [3]

In the 2026 General Session, Jake Sawyer was chief sponsor of H.B. 395, Real Estate Transaction Amendments. It would have enacted the Utah Real Estate Cybercrime Prevention Act, treating failure to use a shared real estate transaction communication network as unprofessional conduct for licensees in the home-buying chain. It never reached a floor vote: a committee sent it back to the Rules Committee, and it was filed on March 6, 2026. [4]

Committee and budget responsibilities

Sawyer's current assignments include House Business, Labor, and Commerce and House Transportation, with corresponding interim work in business and transportation. He also serves on Transportation and Infrastructure Appropriations. The combination connects commercial regulation and infrastructure spending with his background in sales, lending and real estate. It gives residents specific committee settings in which to follow his work beyond the housing priorities described in his biography. [1]
