Bill Scoffield is Cannonville’s mayor. In 2024, he helped organize the town’s response to possible development of state trust land around Promise Rock near Kodachrome Basin State Park. He gathered residents’ accounts of the area’s historical uses to support retaining its existing character. Scoffield proposed allowing Cannonville or Garfield County to manage the land as a park, or adding the parcels to Kodachrome Basin State Park. The proposals concerned roughly 400 acres; reporting at the time described them as options under discussion, rather than completed transfers or protections.
