Clearfield

An invasive yellow fever mosquito has turned up in northern Utah for the first time, Utah Public Radio reported. Davis County Health Department officials found it at Bicentennial Park in Clearfield on Oct. 8 during routine testing. The species was already established in southern Utah. [1]

The mosquito can carry yellow fever, Zika, chikungunya and dengue, and it bites during the day rather than only at dusk or dawn. [1]

Officials have set additional traps and checked neighborhoods since the discovery and have not found more of the insects. They said they will keep checking until colder weather arrives. [1]

The health department's tips for avoiding bites include using an EPA-registered repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and removing standing water from yards. [1]
