Official visitor information ↗

The Mitten Buttes and Merrick Butte rise above a broad desert floor on the Utah–Arizona border. Monument Valley is a Navajo Tribal Park, not a national park, and Navajo Parks and Recreation sets the rules for entry, guiding and commercial use.

A visit usually starts at the visitor center overlook and continues on the park's scenic drive when conditions allow. Some areas can be reached only with an authorized Navajo guide. Federal park passes are separate from tribal admission, and photography follows the park's own rules, including respect for people and homes in the valley.
