Savage provides industrial supply-chain services, including materials handling, facility operations, trucking, engineering and construction. The Midvale business is associated with moving the materials that keep other industries operating, making it different from a parcel-delivery company or a consumer moving service. [1] [2] [3]

Its portfolio changed materially in 2026. A May 1 announcement says Cando Rail & Terminals completed the acquisition of Savage Rail from Savage Enterprises. Savage described the sale as sharpening its focus on food and fuel, including Bartlett, Energy & Mineral Services, Refinery Services and Texon. Older descriptions of Savage’s rail network therefore need care: assets sold to Cando should not continue to be counted as Savage-owned operations. [1] [2]

The company's own 75th-anniversary history starts in Utah in 1946, when Kenneth Savage, home from the Navy, bought a truck with his father, C.A. Savage. Early loads included coal, timber and cinder block, and Kenneth's younger brothers Neal and Luke joined the business later. Today's industrial-services work grew out of that freight-hauling start.
