ARUP Laboratories is a national academic reference laboratory and a nonprofit enterprise of the University of Utah and its Department of Pathology. Its Salt Lake City operation supports hospitals and health systems through laboratory testing, consultation and related services. The corporate contact is on Chipeta Way. [1] [2]

The business combines diagnostic laboratory work with research, education and services for other laboratories. Its website includes a test directory, specimen-handling resources and clinical decision-support materials, as well as consulting on laboratory operations. That makes ARUP part of both Utah’s healthcare workforce and a national network of organizations that send specimens and seek specialist laboratory expertise. [1] [2]

ARUP's own 40-year retrospective dates the formal launch of Associated Regional and University Pathologists Inc. to June 15, 1984, when about 100 laboratory employees joined the new company. That August, the lab moved out of University Hospital into a former OSHA laboratory at 390 Wakara Way in Research Park. [3]
